Dates for the diary: Christmas fayres and a new collaboration

Whilst in the midst of deadlines and selfish knitting I realised that I hadn’t shared some fun and exciting news with you!  Yes, it’s only mid-November, and I am not normally one to start banging on about Christmas until December 1st, but I thought it would be a good idea to tell you that I am going to be part of a couple of Christmas fayres in the next few weeks!  The first of these involves the prospect of more fashion-led knitting and crochet workshops in the new year.

A little while ago I met Nicky Cook, owner of The White Room, a lovely studio and fashion boutique in south London.  To cut things a little short, after much enthusiastic discussion and generally bouncing lots of ideas off each other (more to come further down the line) we are going to be at Croftmas in Crofton Park running a drop-in workshop on making your own Christmas decorations and selling our first knitting and crochet kits!  The event kicks off at 2pm on Saturday 30th November.  I’m currently designing and making the samples but the kits will include everything you need to make either a crocheted or knitted scarf/snood in Rowan Cocoon.  The drop-in classes are designed for the uninitiated and will be a taster session for those who want to try knitting and crochet.

Soon to be turned into beautiful snuggly accessories!

I am super-excited to be working with Nicky; not only is she an experienced, fantastic and an extremely talented pattern cutter and designer, but SHE ALSO HAS LOTS OF TIME AND RESPECT FOR HAND-KNITTED KNITWEAR AND THINKS IT’S WONDERFUL!!- which can’t always be said of those in the fashion industry or coming from a fashion background.  I am thrilled to have found her and can’t wait to begin working with her on the development of new classes, including a Christmas-themed one which will be revealed very soon so watch this space!  I will update my classes page as soon as possible with dates for next spring: everything is in the planning stages (all my venues, not just The White Room!) as I write so please bear with me.

I will also be at Fringe’s annual Christmas craft fair in Muswell Hill showcasing my designs and patterns from Frosted Flowers and some of my semi-precious silver jewellery for the festive season.  The event runs from 11am – 3pm on Saturday 7th December and I and other tutors will be doing lots of taster sessions and demonstrating on the day.  Fringe is not only a knitting shop; it is also a boutique where you can find amazing, intricate knitted/crocheted wire jewellery and lots of beautiful one-off pieces designed by sole traders like me.  I love events like these; they are a great opportunity to try out new crafts and see other crafty creative folk in action, doing what they do best.  I am very happy and excited to be part of a couple of fayres like these in my first proper year of being freelance!

So – a couple of dates for your diary, and more soon about new classes!
